Saladin Ahmed is a fairly new fantasy writer. He has been nominated for the Nebula and the Campbell for his short fiction. We asked Saladin what he wanted to talk about and he mentioned that something interesting to him is setting in fantasy. Why is it, do you think, like there have been non-traditional settings all along and none of them really took off? Even Martin's is at least medieval Europe. Most of fantasy is not. They're not even really trying.
