The Concept of Good Enough
The idea of a good enough parent comes from the mid 20th century pediatrician Donald Winnecott. If you're always there, if you're always on hand to respond to your child's every bid for attention or try to help get them out of a bind, you're actually doing them a real disservice because they're not learning any sort of inner resilience. And so the concept of good enough is that yes, of course you're there, you're attentive, but you also give a wide berth for your child to make mistakes and learn from them.
