The mission of the national institutes of health is to seek fundamental knowledge about the nature and behavior of living systems. And then we apply that knowledge in order to enhance health, lengthen life, reduce illness and disability. So essentially, we are a research funding agency whose goal is to improve the length and quality of human life and health.
