The Origins of the Early Civilizations of India
The origins of the earliest civilizations of India stretch back as far as the 4th millennium BC. The alluvial plains of the Indus river system along the border of modern Pakistan and India fostered the development of complex urban cultures. We typically know as the Indus valley or Harapan civilizations, with famous cities like Mohan Jodar and Harappa reaching their peak from around 2600 to 1700 BC. For a long time, scholars have seen the end of this period as being due to a group of invaders penetrating India during the so-called Aryan invasion. This is a term that needs some clarification.
