The History of Slavery in the United States
The passage was deleted from the original ration of independence at the second continental congress. The fact jefferson wrote it is a sign that some people were having moral problems with slavery as a result of freedom and equality. In 17 80, during the revolutionary war, Pennsylvania issued what was known as the gradual abolition act of 17 80. Other states began adopting similar, gradual approaches towards eliminating slavery. It wasn't until after the civil war that the process was complete.
