Max hastings: Why were people fighting? What what made them get out of their slit trench and lead a charge. He says it's always the same in every war you fight, they want to do their bit to avoid letting down their mates. They don't think about the big issues like jews or human life. And one man who i interviewed said he didn't know how we'd ever have survived if not for the red army taking most of the losses.
