An Angel's Demise is actually a story of Angel, who is born just before the cuss of independence. Her birth and the birth of Zimbabwe as a country are almost parallel. In the book, Angel's white adopted father's farm is violently requisitioned by veterans of the liberation struggle. This also happened in real life, with President Robert Mugabe's approval. We are not for sale, Zimbabwe is not for sale and Zimbabwe is supposed to be backwards.
