How to Discover More Self Knowledge
Shame and guilt are two very different phenomena. The average human being does not understand the concept of guilt till they're about three years old. Even at 18 months, we're aware how other people are perceiving us. Bad stories can lead us away from self knowledge, as early books of the confession make clear. But good stories can bring us greater self knowledge,. I heard these stories, augustine says, and i was on fire to imitate them. So they can have a good effect as well.
