If you listen to the musical Lil of Gaelic, instills enough joy in you that's reason enough to learn the language. Ancient Greek is the most musically charged. Some oral traditions from Nordic and African countries would have benefited from finding a more expansive, written tradition. But who knows more about the old English? Tolkien or Seamus Heaney? I'm going to give it to Tolkien, but who's more enjoyable? Do a taste test for yourself at some point and compare the Tolkien translation of Beowulf with that ofSeamus Heaney.
