The Importance of Renewable Energy in China
China installs more solar and wind capacity than all other countries in the world. But China is firing up two new coal plants per week every week of the year all year long, while Western countries are shutting ours down. A Chinese media outlet said that while Beijing does want that oil and coal, it might be willing to make a deal about reducing the usage of that stuff. So based on my years of dealing with these folks, let me translate that Beijing is saying that they will cooperate on climate issues. But only if Biden and others in the West improve ties by doing things like dropping economic tariffs or getting our military out of the South China Sea.
