John the Baptist and the Bridegroom
John the Baptist is a mysterious figure, but I find him to be a profoundly moving and challenging figure who can call all of us to a deeper fidelity to Jesus. He's embodying Israel in that he proclaims a baptism of repentance for the forgiveness of sins. And why does Jesus die? Because he is the bridegroom. John dies as a witness to marital fidelity. So again, it's really beautiful.
