How to Be a Successful Design Leader

I had a conversation with Jane Austen about the role of design leaders. She said that you need to look after your team like they are your own family now. I've always struggled with it because as a metaphor I feel that family is permanent our teams are temporary and the relationships that we have with family members are often not appropriate in the workplace some of the things that go on there. How do you treat people as a your team as a family while still challenging them and holding them accountable to the objectives that are important to that team and to the wider business without them you know without you not being effective in doing that? That's my challenge for myself over the next 10 years or so.
