There is absolutely no legal or constitutional provision to prevent a convicted criminal from either standing or serving as president. So it turns out there have been convicted criminals who've stood before. In 1920, the socialist candidate, Eugene Debs, ran from prison where he'd been locked up for refusing to serve in World War I think. The difference here is that Trump could pause. He's almost certainly going to get the Republican nomination. And like if he wins, there's a whole other constitutional crisis heading towards the United States.
