The Early Church Was Not a Perfect Church
Soup kitchens today was originally called the love feast and it was a weekly practice of the early believers. The entire community would go on a shared fast until they could scrounge up enough food that they could all feast together. According to Saint Ignatius if caring for the poor and the oppressed and the hungry did not distinctly mark a local church that church was guilty of heresy, says Paul in Galatians 2.
