The fear and hope of the internet has always related to the extent to which it decentralizes or centralizes power. At its best, I hope for the internet was that it would give us a future where there was power spread among a very broad base of people. The STEM education movement's origins are in what you might call seizing the means of information. Unless you can program, you will be programmed to use Douglas Rushkoff's term. That is my fear as well. It's that we won't seize the Means of Information.
