The gospel of Matthew claims that we need to be saved by something or somebody outside of us. The word sin has become a loaded religious word now, it just means to fail or to screw up. Jesus is not only a teacher, he's also a savior. He's Emmanuel. God, with us, come to do something for us that we cannot do for ourselves.
