i think that this overtone and this carefully balanced tension of two different ways of viewing his life is actually very complex. And was probably not it was too emotionally complicated to make it a box office hit at the time. Now, a second misunderstanding of the movie that we should be aware of is the notion that it portrays simply a generic, hollywood fantasy vision of america. You could see bedford falls as kind of a a false vision, a simulacrum of an america that never existed in the first place.
