Ukrainian Shelling of Russia's Belgorod Region
The White House believes Putin will respond sharply to a successful Ukrainian offensive in Crimea. The US has never recognized it as Russian and of course neither has Kiev. So at least they do recognize that a full-blown offensive against Crimea is a red line for Russia. But we have seen them shift and it looks like they are supporting attacks inside Russia which could also lead to a major escalation.
