A lot of factors contribute to the idea of sexual intercourse as being something terrifying that can harm women. For whatever reason, whether it's the fear of physical pain in heterosexual intercourse or the indoctrination of women in a patriarchal society, women are conditioned to feel ashamed for wanting to have sex. It's also worth theoretically examining Jacques Lacan's notion of the imaginary phallus which is perceived by the child in the pre-edipal phase as the object of the mother's desire. The edifice complex involves the renunciation of this attempt to be the imaginary phalus.
