The Four Minute Mile

For hundreds of years, running a mile in four minutes or less appeared to be beyond the reach of human athletic ability. But his training improved and runners began to close in on the target. By the 1940s, chasing the four minute mile became something of a global phenomenon. Runners all over the world became obsessed with breaking this barrier but they all came up short. Swedish runner Goonder Haig came the closest when he ran amile in four minutes and 1.4 seconds.
