meditation plays right into the western obsession with individualism. Psychotherapy, medication, access to nature and meaningful work are all levers that we should be pulling - if you're into it. The brahma viharas or loving kindness practice boosts capacity for warmth toward yourself and everybody else. It's a skill that we can boost our capacity for warmth and being an omni directional force that includes ourselves and the world. I'm not a meditation fundamentalist. i think it's one tool among many.
