The Differences Between Ambassadors and Diplomats
When I was ambassador to Russia, we had 1,400 or 1,500 people on the staff throughout the country. Most of those people were Russians that worked for the United States. We hosted the NBA one day in my house. That's a big part of being an ambassador in the 21st century. Michael McFall Helping Washington understand what was going on in Russia is another big part of the job of the diplomat.
