The City of New York Was on Fire
When the fire s went off, it attracted a certain type who saw this as a real opportunity to get their hands on some good lot. The miserable wretches became beastly drunk on the champagne and other wines and liquors with which the streets and wharves were lined. In fact, yes, turned into a sort of festive affair. After 24 hours, martial law was finally declared and marines moved in.
