In a talk he gave in advance of the c o p 26 meeting, bryan cox argued that while there are plenty of planets elsewhere in our galaxy which could potentially support life, many fewer will have seen life emerge. In other words, not conscious, sentient life. He then suggested that planet earth maybe the only place in the galaxy supporting sentient life. And he concluded that if life on earth were destroyed, e g, by climate change, that would eliminate meaning in our galaxy forever.
