In the fifties, they started floating around some different plans that involved developing some of this real estate. They proposed selling off the airrights above those tracks. That never ended up happening because it was considered at the time, too far west. So what did they settle on? Well, they they moved forward with their plan b. The station would be re developed underground for 13 million dollars. It would be stream lined and air conditioned. According to the railroad quote, when completed, the new station will be the world's finest.
