There's no actual attempt to overthrow Torin or any of that, but there was talk. And some of it came from Torin's sons. Aegon adopted the faith and wasn't hostile to the old gods openly. So maybe there was a bit of a rub. It wouldn't have been like, only Northerners are allowed. If they did, that would also explain why it didn't last.
