The Monoamine Hypothesis of Depression

Mono amines are neurotransmitters, meaning they change the activity of neural circuits in the brain and body. Mono amines include things like serotonin, dopamine, and norepinephrine. Drugs designed to increase certain mono amines only work in about 40% of depressed people who take them; 60% don't respond at all.
