The Cost of Living in a High Tax State
High taxes in certain states reduce families net incomes much more than high maintenance costs increase the expense of owning a large home. California becomes even more unaffordable once we take these factors into account. The Dutch find themselves paying almost 16 times their take home pay to buy an average home. Ireland, where I grew up, is above the average at 7.3 times average income for the average home.
