The House of Commons has 650 elected MPs and an upper house, the House of Lords. First-past-the-post essentially means 650 different elections in different parts of the country. It is simply the case that whoever comes top of the ballot in each constituency is elected as an MP. The upside to this is there's a very strong relationship between each MP and their constituency.
