Is There a Difference Between a Placebo and a Drug?
The drug companies put tremendous pressure to get some report to the Food and Drug Administration that will look like there's a statistically significant difference. Irving Kirsch analyzed data on 18 or 20,000 individuals with moderate to severe depression who have been treated with placebo versus every known antidepressant at every known dose. He discovered that patients who get placebos get an 8.5-point reduction on average.
