The Law of Quia Emptores
Quia Emptores was one of the first major steps in the erosion of the traditional feudal system. The law created a market for the purchase and sale of land, which meant that peasants had the ability to build up state over time if they worked hard enough. But even though the law created a new market for land, it was somewhat limited by all the property held by unfree peasants. In the mid-1300s, those limitations were wiped away by the black death.
