Ernest Rutherford's experiments showed that the atom is made up of a dense charged core, which we call the nucleus. The common picture was to think of electrons orbiting the nucleus like planets orbiting around a star. But this model was known to have some pretty big fatal flaws. In 1913, Danish physicist Niels Bohr came up with an explanation for these two issues. He assumed something very radical, similar to what Einstein had been promoting.
