We shouldn't be saying that social concerns in politicsar going to take over the gospel. We want to advocate for the good of so ety, to restrain evil and promote justice as defined by godly standards. Just because jesus did something doesn't mean we are supposed to do it. For example, jesus's mission was to give his life as a ransom for many. His agenda broader than changing or rescuing any one nation. But that has nothing to do with our own calling as his disciples.
