The Kuran and the Law of Divorce
Mohammed and the koran allow for divorce. Adultery is one of the grounds for possible divorce. Men and women had the same power to divorce for the same reasons. The punishments for crimes like adultery were equal for men and women. But as i said, men and women also were not equal within the family. So we see here a description of marriage where the man is supreme because he provides for the woman. In the seventh century this was seen as an improvement over the way women had traditionally been treated previously.
