The Story of the Federal Income Tax
When the federal income tax was first instituted back in the early 1900s, politicians promised that this was a tax on the rich and it was coming in at something like one or two percent. It took less than a decade before that tax was extended all the way down to the poorDown to what in today's dollars would be less than 20,000 a year income household. And the lesson here is that if you're listening to the promises of a politician, stop doing that. Politicians exist to make politicians happy, not to make you happy. We are no longer free people going about our lives. We are serfs working on the federal government's property.
