The challenge with being a first time manager is that the skills that got you into this position are not the skills that will help you succeed as a manager. Recognize that just because you might be a good manager to day doesn't mean that you were a good manager on date one. All new managers are going to struggle in their new positions. And that's not necessarily an indictment of their abilities to succeed. It just means that they need some extra training.
