I wanted to stage the missed encounters, the reasons that those things didn't seem appealing to me at the time. I mean, all these things that i see as liberating ideologies now, like, you know, queer theory and feminism are new ways of looking at history. The inspiration for that scene was a picasso,. a sculpture show in, i think, at moma in new york in 20 16, where i had the idea to have selen think about picasso. It just looked like these splintered, fragmented women. And everyone's just looking there with this delighted smile, like, wow, this is art.
