The Importance of Fun in Engineering
Most programmers want to get paid and have fun at the same time. For many engineers, it boils down to tackling interesting and challenging problems that are within the realm of solvability. Once a company reaches a certain level of success, I think it gives easier and easier for developers and even dev leads and managers to rationalize doing other kind of cool things.
