The Red Web - The Secrets of the Russian Surveillance State
The red web is a book about russia's surveillance state. It was published in 2009, and just came out with the second edition this year. The idea of online servilance comes from Russian 'sorm', which stands for system of operative o such measures. In terms of design, sorm is still soviet - essentially an intrusive system. But it has been updated recently to include new technology.
