How do we use these in a thoughtful and organized way to move us forward as a science? The first thing that i will underscore is that how you think about it to start really is critical. null hypothesis significance testing makes that choice in one way. And model base thinking can make choices statistically, like using a multivariat wald test or likelihood ratio tests.
