The Doom Hypothesis and the Simulation Hypothesis

You've got to accept at least one of these three statements. It seems implausible that highly sophisticated civilizations would have no interest once they worked out they could do it in creating such simulations. And as far as the doom, I mean it would seem really bleak if not even one in a thousand civilizations like ours managed to make it through. That should make us despair about our own future.
