Milton's Ariopagatika, He Was Arguing Against Censorship
Milton was one of the earliest writers on liberal ideas, and so this is all the way back in 1644. He thought that if you just have the truth out there and it's allowed to fight with falsehood, then the truth naturally will out. This can generally be the case, but it doesn't have to necessarily be the case - which is why we should expect every single thing we know contains misconceptions.
