The Twigs in My Neck
The author of "Standing in the Forest of Being Alive" writes about being a redhead. She says she was struck by flying detritus, pollen or seeds and leaned against a rock to scrub it away. But when she reached up to touch it, she felt a twig emerging from her eye. The roots drew salt from her sweat into their vacuum, and she no longer hungry.
