Your Mom Was a Leader in Church, Girl Scout Leader, PTA Leader
You write in your book very movingly about some of the things your mom did for you and your child. You describe how often times you were the only black family in new environments. And when you were a kid, you described moving to the suburbs of LA and frequently being harassed by other kids. Your mom, you know, did everything she could to protect you, joining the PTA, as you mentioned. Getting involved in your classroom at one point, going to the principal and essentially forcing him to punish students who actually physically assaulted you.
