The Importance of Pleasure
Nick McKeon Ethics: The pleasure or pain that accompanies someone's deeds ought to be taken as a sign of his characteristics. He who abstains from bodily pleasures and enjoys this very abstention is moderate, but he who is vexed in doing so is licentious. Aristotle thinks about pleasure as a kind of antenna for detecting goodness; it doesn't mean your pleasure is always attached to good things. You might take pleasure in things that are bad for you because they have kind of a momentary delight. This is real flourishing, this is real joy."
