In herman mel s moby dick, we see midway through the novel that a dark yard is bed like a grave yawning at judgment day in some old apocalyptic painting. This feels like a reverse cphrasis, or a sort of ironic anti phrasis. What's ephrasis? Ecphrasis is when the writer tries to convey another art form with their words. I don't know if we would call the road a sublime novel. But there is a grandeur to the descriptions the infinite landscape as part of the american sublime.
