The State of Pure Nature
Thomas Aquinas argued that God had first created humanity in a state of pure nature as did Bonaventure and innocent the third and others. He thought we were created in but also without the effects of sin which he certainly thinks are not inevitable. This this notion helps us recall that sin is not natural but entails a disfigurement our fallen state now is not purely natural.
