Self Knowledge

i'm drawn to utilitarianism first and foremost because it's a very rebellious view er. I think through a process of introspection, we can work out things that are hidden from us. The people that strike me as very dangerous are those that have no ability to do this. They believe it to be true, and there is no evidence that could ever dislodge them. So i guess the ideal philosopher doesn't discover what their beliefs are. Their beliefs are supposedto track the truth, but i don't think philosophers generally function that way.
