The Relevance of Chesterton
I think the first time I ever had to defend why Chesterton mattered was in this graduate school class. It wasn't a distinctly you know what they might call a progressive liberal theology course it wasn't that at all. There were some ideas that we entertained that were on the cutting edge of contemporary Catholic theology. He was writing in a way that really does hit all of our common sensibilities and it is very difficult to go into an academic setting and talk about how lost a soul can become because of academia. Yet Chesterton says this is exactly what happens and it can happen with theology right that's why he calls it.
