The Anti-Vivisection Movement Was Largely Led by Women
The anti-vivisection movement was largely led by women, and it had a lot of overlap with the suffrage movement. Because caring about animal welfare was seen as overly sensitive, men who were part of the movement were often disparaged as being effeminate. People who supported Vivisection just dismissed the entire movement as standing in the way of scientific and medical progress.
